The first movie I picked for this project had just come out on Netflix and though it looked pretty cheesy I saw that the producers of Underworld were behind it, it had a very good cast and I went for it. I, Frankenstein is without a doubt one of the worst movies I have ever seen.
Nothing in this movie makes sense, absolutely nothing. The movie opens with some guy dying, Aaron Eckhart with shitty makeup buries him and for absolutely no reason he’s attacked by ghouls or something. After that, for about an hour and a half, stuff just happens and we’re supposed to follow some nonsensical plot about angels fighting gargoyles or demons fighting monsters or something. I have to be honest, I stopped paying attention to the plot like 5 minutes in because there is a lot of exposition given by horrible accents and I just gave up. Also, this movie is so dark. Everything is dark, dark to the point of incoherence. People are flying and fighting and half the time I had no idea who they were or why. If you’re picking up on a theme here congrats, everything is confusing.
Most confusing is the cast and the filmmakers behind this have good track records. Aaron Eckhart is always good, but here he play a monster named Adam…that’s right, Adam, be afraid. Yvonne Strahovski, Bill Nighy, Miranda Otto and Jai Courtney are all actors that do good work but here they’re saddled with amazingly cheesy dialogue and did I mention the horrible accents? Oh, yeah I did. The producers are behind the really fun Underworld franchise that certainly aren’t the best movies but have some sense of style and pace, none of which are evident here in any form. Ugh, if you made it to the end of this movie then believe me, I know your pain.
