Slow West

We need more western films in this world. Such a well crafted trailer and with an excellent cast, this is one I’m absolutely looking forward to.  Michael Fassbender is one of the best actors working today and paired with the always interesting Ben Mendelsohn I can’t wait to check this one out.  I love movies…

#35 – Hide Your Smiling Faces

Great imagery and an intimate story about family and brotherhood that really doesn’t go anywhere.  The kind of movie that ends and you’re left wondering what, if anything just happened.  Promising parts but left wanting as a whole. Recommend? I wouldn’t, just not enough story there.

Spy

I’m a big fan of the Action/Comedy genre and this looks like a great addition! This one has all of the hallmarks to be a summer hit.  Paul Feig has a great track record in such a short period of time and I love the blend of the comedic standouts Melissa McCarthy and Allison Janney…

Entourage

Like it or not, an Entourage movie is coming. I’ll be honest, I thought the Entourage guys started to get tired towards the end so I’m not even sure if I’m excited for this movie, but I will admit that the trailer is great.  Hopefully it’s a satisfying end to the series.

Trainwreck

It seems like the good summer comedy has become an afterthought with superhero movies and action sequels, but Trainwreck looks great! Amy Schumer, Bill Hader and Judd Apatow…yup, sign me up.  A comedy with cameos and a great actress in the lead I’m really excited to see this one.  Apatow consistently brings the funny and…

#22 – Foxcatcher

It’s always strange to me how some films about a real life topic, where the ending is known can still bring about feelings of tension and dread and make you nervous to watch them.  I’ve had that experience many times it seems and especially with recent films like United 93 and Zero Dark Thirty.  I…

#9 – The Ouija Experiment

This movie was so dumb.  It takes almost an hour for any scares to start and even then they’re predictable jump scares and the acting is just horrible.  Save yourself the time and just stare at a Ouija board for an hour and a half, it’s pretty much the same experience. Recommend? Nope.

#72 – Parallels

This is labeled as a movie on Netflix but I have to believe that it’s a TV pilot.  The acting feels like a SyFy channel show, there is no resolution and the overall story never even attempts to go past a single storyline.  The concept is somewhat interesting but everything else falls short. Recommend? I’d…

#50 – All This Mayhem

An excellent documentary about skateboarding and family, but even more than that it’s a look at sports and the pitfalls of fame. Skateboarding was something I never really followed but I do remember this time in it’s history and some of the events shown here, the aftermath and the photography stuck with me. Recommend? Absolutely,…

#37 – A Field In England

A complete miss for me.  A stream of consciousness movie about madness and paranoia that ultimately goes nowhere.  Several times I checked to see how much was left because whatever semblance of plot there was just couldn’t keep my attention.  Ben Wheatley is a good director, I just couldn’t connect with this one. Recommend? I…
