A pretty by-the-numbers teenage romantic comedy.  Everything you figure to happen, does and nothing is very surprising except for the excellent performances pretty much across the board.  Mae Whitman is strong in the lead role (although I completely disagree with her designation as The DUFF and once you look up that term you should as well) and Robbie Amell really surprised me by bringing more than the usual smoldering to the typical “hot guy” role as well as Allison Janney once again killing it in a supporting role.  The story is run of the mill but the performances made it much more tolerable.

Recommend? If you’ve seen one of these movies then you’ve basically seen them all, but I’d give it a watch.
