Okay folks, this one isn’t going to go good and believe me that I’m going to be fighting the urge to use expletives over and over in this review of undoubtedly one of the worst and unfunny movies that I’ve ever seen. The fact that this movie is even labeled a “comedy” is an insult to all other comedic films and I find it offensive. As I settled in to view this one I had heard the bad reviews and the criticisms but I put those to the side and decided to watch it for myself. We’ve all seen movies that we’ve enjoyed that had gotten reviews elsewhere that criticized it or even had friends that completely disagreed with our opinions but this piece of sh–, nope, sorry, I’ll try not to go there. Let’s get into why I completely hated this movie and there will be spoilers because who really cares.
There is no backstory given (thank God) and we are dropped right into the story of Vince Vaughn’s character being fired from some business by Sienna Miller, who says more lines here than anywhere else in the film, and as he’s leaving he rips off Jerry Maguire and for no reason brings Tom Wilkinson and Dave Franco with him. So to start we have a cast of all fine actors, all have done good work and in fact most have had success in comedies which makes this movie even all the more confusing. Flash to one year later and all of a sudden the team of Vaughn/Wilkinson/Franco is on the verge of a big business deal and all they need is a “handshake”. Oh boy, now it’s time for the obligatory backstories which couldn’t be more depressing, because that’s what we really want with our comedies right? So here are our “hilarious” heroes: Vaughn is part of a family that apparently only communicates over FaceTime and has an overweight bullied son and a daughter who gives her father useless homework assignments, Wilkinson’s only dream is to seriously get a divorce and have sex with someone other than his wife and Franco is mentally retarded. From here the story even gets more incoherent as the team travels all over Europe in search of the deal and go from one sad exchange to another. During all of this Wilkinson tries to hire a prostitute maid to no avail and there’s a horrendous running joke about a sex position, oh, and all the while it’s apparently funny to laugh at Franco who can hardly function in life due to, remember, his mental handicaps. We see boobs and dicks, the guys get screwed over in their deal and then guess what? Party time and glory holes! All of this of course wraps up with the guys winning in the end and Vaughn gets his family back (who cares) Wilkinson gets his divorce and a maid to have sex with (yay?) and Franco gets to go home with his special needs roommates (this is seriously the most touching part of the movie).
I’m going to be frank here, this movie sucks, I absolutely hated this movie, the end.
Recommend? I’m going to yell curse words into the sky and God forgive anyone who watches this.
