#59 – Drug Lord: The Legend Of Shorty

The drug violence in Mexico is known throughout the world but for such an fascinating subject this is just a lackluster documentary.  Unfocused and unfulfilling, I feel like there’s a great story here to be told but maybe by different filmmakers or in a different way. Recommend? I wouldn’t, there are just too many quality…

#5 – Welcome To The Jungle

Jean-Claude Van Damme continues his great pick of recent roles with a hilarious corporate retreat farce.  Rob Huebel is hilarious as the foil and Adam Brody plays a great straight man.  Stupid and silly yet hilarious, one of the better comedies I’ve seen in a long while. Recommend? For sure, Rob Heubel and Jean-Claude are…

Ant-Man

Marvel continues to take over the world, this time with a thief who can shrink to the size of an ant. I’m still just not sure about this one.  The action scenes are encouraging and I like the look of Corey Stoll’s villain but after Edgar Wright left the project over “creative differences” I think…

#23 – Better Living Through Chemistry

I lost interest in this movie pretty quickly.  Thin characters and an alright story, I just couldn’t find a way to stay interested.  Sam Rockwell gives his usual great performance but when you don’t really care about any of the characters then there’s really no reason to stick around.  Not horrible, just not very good.…

#35 – Hide Your Smiling Faces

Great imagery and an intimate story about family and brotherhood that really doesn’t go anywhere.  The kind of movie that ends and you’re left wondering what, if anything just happened.  Promising parts but left wanting as a whole. Recommend? I wouldn’t, just not enough story there.

#9 – The Ouija Experiment

This movie was so dumb.  It takes almost an hour for any scares to start and even then they’re predictable jump scares and the acting is just horrible.  Save yourself the time and just stare at a Ouija board for an hour and a half, it’s pretty much the same experience. Recommend? Nope.

#72 – Parallels

This is labeled as a movie on Netflix but I have to believe that it’s a TV pilot.  The acting feels like a SyFy channel show, there is no resolution and the overall story never even attempts to go past a single storyline.  The concept is somewhat interesting but everything else falls short. Recommend? I’d…

#50 – All This Mayhem

An excellent documentary about skateboarding and family, but even more than that it’s a look at sports and the pitfalls of fame. Skateboarding was something I never really followed but I do remember this time in it’s history and some of the events shown here, the aftermath and the photography stuck with me. Recommend? Absolutely,…

#37 – A Field In England

A complete miss for me.  A stream of consciousness movie about madness and paranoia that ultimately goes nowhere.  Several times I checked to see how much was left because whatever semblance of plot there was just couldn’t keep my attention.  Ben Wheatley is a good director, I just couldn’t connect with this one. Recommend? I…

#32 – We Could Be King

High school football in Philadelphia is a good backdrop to tell a story.  The story is very compelling but at times I thought it tried to do too many things.  At it’s core though these kids and these coaches striving for excellence is really something to watch. Recommend? I liked it just enough, so sure.
