Trainwreck

It seems like the good summer comedy has become an afterthought with superhero movies and action sequels, but Trainwreck looks great! Amy Schumer, Bill Hader and Judd Apatow…yup, sign me up.  A comedy with cameos and a great actress in the lead I’m really excited to see this one.  Apatow consistently brings the funny and…

#22 – Foxcatcher

It’s always strange to me how some films about a real life topic, where the ending is known can still bring about feelings of tension and dread and make you nervous to watch them.  I’ve had that experience many times it seems and especially with recent films like United 93 and Zero Dark Thirty.  I…

#9 – The Ouija Experiment

This movie was so dumb.  It takes almost an hour for any scares to start and even then they’re predictable jump scares and the acting is just horrible.  Save yourself the time and just stare at a Ouija board for an hour and a half, it’s pretty much the same experience. Recommend? Nope.

#72 – Parallels

This is labeled as a movie on Netflix but I have to believe that it’s a TV pilot.  The acting feels like a SyFy channel show, there is no resolution and the overall story never even attempts to go past a single storyline.  The concept is somewhat interesting but everything else falls short. Recommend? I’d…

#50 – All This Mayhem

An excellent documentary about skateboarding and family, but even more than that it’s a look at sports and the pitfalls of fame. Skateboarding was something I never really followed but I do remember this time in it’s history and some of the events shown here, the aftermath and the photography stuck with me. Recommend? Absolutely,…

#37 – A Field In England

A complete miss for me.  A stream of consciousness movie about madness and paranoia that ultimately goes nowhere.  Several times I checked to see how much was left because whatever semblance of plot there was just couldn’t keep my attention.  Ben Wheatley is a good director, I just couldn’t connect with this one. Recommend? I…

#32 – We Could Be King

High school football in Philadelphia is a good backdrop to tell a story.  The story is very compelling but at times I thought it tried to do too many things.  At it’s core though these kids and these coaches striving for excellence is really something to watch. Recommend? I liked it just enough, so sure.

Avengers Assemble! My favorite roles by our Avengers heroes

Undoubtedly the biggest movie of the Summer, Avengers: Age Of Ultron, is going to roar into theaters May 1st and everyone else is going to be fighting for second place.  I remember sitting in the theater for The Avengers and getting goosebumps when we finally see every one of our heroes standing together in the…

#36 – Coherence

Coherence plays out like a puzzle.  I had a lot of fun trying to keep up with the trippy premise and attempting to connect the dots.  Solid acting helps the story along and I thought it was paced really well.  I’d definitely go back a second time and maybe see if clues are given to…

#99 – Capturing The Friedmans

Andrew Jarecki has recently come onto everyone’s radar because of his fascinating 6 part documentary series on HBO, The Jinx, which followed the eccentric Robert Durst in Serial type examination of Durst and his alleged crimes that ultimately ended in…well, if you don’t know just go watch it or read the front page of almost…
