#136 – The Numbers Station

Another in a string of forgettable performances by John Cusack and another entry on the resume of Malin Akerman showing she’s another pretty face with not much acting ability.  There’s some plot about a mysterious station in the middle of nowhere that has ties to the government but, meh, nothing really adds up to much.…

The Martian

I am all in on this one from the subject to the terrific cast. I kind of view this as Interstellar focusing on the most interesting part of that film.  Let’s see if this interests you: Matt Damon and Ridley Scott in space…here’s my money now.

#145 – The Purge: Anarchy

I cannot explain why I like these Purge movies so much.  The first I thought was original but came apart at the end and this one is more of an action film than a horror piece and I gotta say that while there are parts I just rolled my eyes at, overall I like this…

#46 – Kingsman: The Secret Service

When I first saw Kingsman: The Secret Service in theaters I wasn’t really sure what I saw.  What I did know was that I completely enjoyed myself and wanted to see it again.  Now on my third viewing I can honestly say that I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a movie like it and…

#152 – Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

You will never get me to say a bad word about The Rock because that guy is all kinds of awesome.  He’s by the far the best thing about this movie because everything else is just ridiculous.  Josh Hutcherson and Vanessa Hudgens are just bad and even the great Luis Guzman is reduced to horrible…

#122 – Into The Storm

A first person camera disaster film that seriously should’ve dropped the first person conceit.  By the poster and the trailer you figure you’ll at least see some good disaster footage but even that we’ve all seen before.  The acting is pretty subpar except for Richard Armitage who maybe thought he was in another movie because…

#148 – Jurassic World

First off, any comparisons to the fabulous and ground-breaking Jurassic Park just need to stop right now.  I guess they’re inevitable but at the same time the original film was something we’d never seen before while working off of the traditional horror movie template.  The feeling of awe upon seeing that first shot of dinosaurs…

#150 – Spy

Spy is a movie that should be celebrated more but sadly will have a brief moment to shine before being bowled over by bigger Summer blockbusters.  The spy genre has been an easy target lately with several spoofs and send up films but few have had the great mix of parody and reverence as well…

#114 – Brick Mansions

Just a solid and exciting action film here.  Nothing exceptional but a good enough story to keep you interested and a few fun performances.  RZA overacts but even that is fun to watch, but the elephant in the room is Paul Walker.  Walker once again shows that he’s good in these types of roles but…

#111 – Lucy

I really don’t need a reason to see Scarlett Johansson kick ass for an hour and twenty minutes so this was an easy selection for me.  Everything is great except for that last twenty minutes when things really go off the rails.  That first hour though is so much fun and has some great action.…
